It's 1910 in the South-East of England, young Charlotte Page has just finished finishing school for the last time.
Having lost her mother at a very young age, Charlotte has somewhat adopted her very glamorous and mysterious neighbour, Mrs Ferguson as a mother figure, someone she looks up to and aspires to be like.
